In my 43 years, I have sat and watched countless sunsets. I have seen sunsets while cruising at over 40,000 feet on transatlantic flights, sunsets on the Oregon Coast, sunsets from the majestic mountains of British Columbia, from numerous beaches, and from the wide open Prairie skies. But none of them took my breath away as this one did:
While this sunset picture may appear to have been taken by a photographer in one of the Earth’s many desert regions, it is actually from 35 million miles away. This image was captured by the Mars Rover “Spirit”, at the end of a Martian “Sol”, or day. The amazing twin rovers Spirit and Opportunity continue to operate some four years after touching down on Mars. Well after their 90 day expected lifespan.
